RSS feeds addictive

I love the fact that everything you ae interesting in and what to know about is there ready to go on the one site and you dont have to search and search for the information! Makes alot more time effective and you find the information that you want and need, with just one click.

I choose stacks of sites for my rss, all the topics I like from Shopping, music to movies and a stack more! I can now go to the movies feed and click on rotten tomatoes and it takes me straight to there web page and I can read the review straight away no searching involved.

I could use this for work to put all work related websites in the one area and have them all just a click away. I work with the serial subscriptions so I could get all the magazine companies in the one rss and be able to compare prices in one go and not have to jump back anf fourth from website to website.

I think all Libraries could use, and could be as indvidual for every worker, for example in our Library one staff member could use this for story time subjects, another for inter library loans assitance. It would save the workers time in searching for the appropriate information as they can have all relevant websites together in one rss feed.

Social Networks

Social networks are great tool for personal use or for business. I have my own profile on Facebook and have found it a great tool to get in contact with friends and family no matter how far away they live.

Our Library could use any one of the social networks on the internet to encourage participation in upcoming events that the library will be holding. By getting users who use these networks to be come apart of our Libraries network we could send emails, or they could view upcoming events the Library would be holding. After the events have been held we could publish how effective the even was and ask the clients who all attended to give there in put.

Was good to see how the National Library New Zealand is using Twitter to share with there clients and other businesses what going on in there Library. They can share posts and let there followers know without sending emails or anything, when they log in next time they will see there post and they will know what’s going on. They can also add links to there posts for there clients to follow and check. I think its great idea to get across to there followers by using a social network.

Wikis Wikis everywhere

Our Library has there own wiki set up on wetpaint. It has been very useful for our Library as we have two different branches, it makes it easier to share comments and thoughts on upcoming events. We also keep our procedures on the wiki so it's easy to access these if anyone requires them. We do our stationary orders as well via the wiki, being two different branches it is hard to keep in contact with things like this, so If the Gatton branch is running low on some stationary supplies they just jump on the wiki and add it to the list for the next order. It's very useful for our Library and I think all larger Libraries would find wikis useful for their Library. It was another way of getting to know fellow work colleagues as every worker has there own profile and you can learn a little bit more about everyone on the wiki as well, this helped when the council amalgamations happened as the two Libraries joined and we could connect with one another via the wiki.
